Hamilton School was founded on respect, hard work, perseverance, and caring for others.
All children are equipped to face the challenges of life with a well-rounded education and good Christian values.
Hamilton’s mission is to prepare your child to become a successful, contributing member of society. This is communicated by our school motto: Ad Vitam Paramus (We are preparing for life).

Hamilton School’s ethos is Christian. We celebrate religious events such as Easter and Christmas and our end-of-year concert may be based on a religious theme. However, we welcome and respect pupils of all denominations and religions and value the variety of languages and cultures that are represented throughout our school. No learner is forced to participate in Christian religious celebrations.
Hamilton School was opened in January 2007 by a group of parents and business people who believe that Ladysmith offers young professionals the opportunity to provide their children with an excellent education without having to send them to boarding or private school in larger cities.

Hamilton was named after Boer War hero General Sir Ian Hamilton. The youngest colonel in the British Army, he consistently demonstrated passion, generosity, and wisdom.
Hailed as “a brilliant and chivalrous man who served his country well” by Sir Winston Churchill, he was regarded as a brilliant, wise, free-thinking individual who had deep regard and respect for humankind.
To represent these values, we adopted the Hamilton family crest as our school badge, and the girl’s uniform as well as the College boy’s ties include the Hamilton Tartan.
